Hard Things#youtube.com

This Casey video is an absolute banger.

The lady with the shopping trolley getting run into mid race is wild. How are people able to cross like that even when the race is on?

The boys are looking very fit.

Symphony Of The Night Initial Thoughts

This week I've started playing Castlevania: Symphony of the Nght. Here are some initial thoughts:

  • I'm really enjoying the game so far but it is challenging, I was finding it so tricky I resorted to searching for a guide, I found this official game guide which is absolutely beautiful, it's sad these kinds of guides don't exist anymore, the guide reminds me of what Tunic has in game
  • I found the controls confusing at first, just the basic like equipping weapons, handling sub weapons and casting spells is all pretty confusing, to cast a spell is literally like a Grand Theft Auto cheat code
  • I can see how it greatly influenced games like Hollow Knight in terms of music and art style, and of course the Metroidvania game mechanics
  • It's a classic old game in that you must save, if you forget to save you'll find yourself in scenarios where all of your progress is lost, this limitation almost makes the game more fun though

Synth Game Songs

One of the best use cases for killing time with my synth is playing game music. The music of Ocarina of Time and Stardew Valley are some of my favourites but anything from the new Nintendo Music app is solid.

Just playing the melodies and trying to replicate the different synth tones is a lot of fun.

Gold Coast Rebrand#goldcoastfc.com.au

I think this is a good rebrand. I need to see them run out in the jumper on match day to get a better idea.

The new logo features three key elements:

  1. The scorching Sun of the Gold Coast rising over the ocean and horizon,
  2. The bold “S” that represents the SUNS and the community who have built the Gold Coast,
  3. A football at the logo’s heart, signifying our purpose and commitment to excellence.

Full Echoes Of Wisdom Review

I finished Echoes of Wisdom yesterday. Here's a few thoughts and screenshots of the game:

  • It was a bit of a let down, the story and game mechanics were in my opinion not that great
  • The game felt too easy, I didn't play in hero mode but the base game should have felt more challenging IMO, the standard of "good level of challenge" for this kind of game is Tunic now for me
  • The performance was sometimes bad, it wasn't too noticeable but it was enough to be annoying, for this kind of game performance should not be an issue, Nintendo please release the Switch 2
  • If you found a really strong echo early then you were basically invincible
  • The puzzles in the dungeons could have been more interesting, some were super simple and just classic Zelda tropes like "light this thing on fire to open a door", classic puzzles are fine for nostalgia but they shouldn't be too common, I need some new puzzles
  • The map was nice, it was fun to explore and find new places and echoes
  • There were too many fast travel points, you could skip over a lot of the map and not explore if you were being lazy
  • The still world was okay but it felt a bit like filler before the real dungeons
  • The final boss battle with Null didn't have a satisfying ending, I beat the boss first time
  • You could make smoothies too easily to replenish energy
  • The art style was good, I'm totally okay with it, but I also see why people love the art style in A Link to the Past and The Minish Cap, would be cool for a new game to be in this kind of style
  • Money is this game didn't really count for anything, you didn't really need to buy anything

Command Line Utilities#weiyen.net

Most of these I already knew but I couple I didn't.

This one to get UTC time quickly

date -u

is handy for server logs.

This one for uuid's

uuidgen | tr '[:upper:]' '[:lower:]' | pbcopy

is good for writing tests.
