Photo Storage#daringfireball.net

Am I missing something? It feels like this new commercial is just whistling past the single biggest shortcoming in the Apple ecosystem.

Agree with this take 1000% percent.

Public Photo Albums With Apple Photos

I did a little bit of investigation into how Apple Photo's works this week. I wanted to make "public" photo albums and turns out there's 2 ways to do this.

Firstly, you can share a normal photo album and get a link for it. To access this on a Mac you go to the share icon > "Copy iCloud Link" from the album. You end up getting a link that you can then access for a month.

If you want a link that never expires and is a public album you need to created a Shared Album. You then click on the little face icon from the shared album and make sure the "Public Website" checkbox is checked. You then end up with an album like this.

So I guess for viewing photos a Shared Album is better but for bulk downloading images and sharing them a normal album is better.

Is Augusta National Overratted#youtube.com

This is an excellent question. It's interesting most tour players don't rate it like your average golfer does.

Mac Gaming Fails

In the last few weeks I've tried a few different approaches to playing Windows based games on my Mac.

I initially was interested in testing out the Game Porting Toolkit and downloaded Whisky as the app to wrap Wine.

I installed the app and then was able to get the Windows version of Steam working as a bottle. I wanted to play Skyrim and followed these instructions to get things working properly.

I followed this wiki but just couldn't get things working smoothly. I had audio issues and the frame rate stuttered.

I basically just want to install my game and play it when it comes to this sort of stuff. Tinkering around with Winetricks is just not something I want to do in my downtime.

My other gaming "experience" on the Mac I tried was using the Xbox Cloud Gaming (Game Pass) platform.

This is clearly the future of gaming and the whole setup was extremely seamless. It's also in my opinion pretty affordable for the amount of games you get access to.

I tried playing EA Sports PGA Tour in spirit of The Masters coming up this week.

The game unfortunately ran like crap. The controls were very sluggish and the lag between button press and seeing action in game just wasn't playable.

It's a shame and to be fair might be more my Wi-Fi's problem and not Xbox.

Back to the Nintendo Switch we go.

The next two games I'm going to play through are Tunic and Super Metroid.

Recording My Synth To My Mac

I haven't played my Yamaha Reface CS synth in ages but for some reason last week I dusted it off and had a tinker.

Boots chewed the power cable about a year ago (when he was in his super naughty puppy phase) so it's batteries only power wise for now.

I wanted to do a quick post on how it all works with my Mac when I play.

The synth itself has the basic knobs like an oscillator, cutoff, envelope, LFO and a few different effects. It's nothing fancy but it works well in my opinion.

I can then connect it up to my Mac via the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 which I've had for many years now. It's a solid little audio interface.

I plug two 1/4" cables into the left and right outputs of the synth and then plug the other ends into inputs 1 and 2 in the Focusrite.

I then plug the Focusrite into my Mac via old school USB. This sends the audio signal to the Mac and also powers the Focusrite.

I can then start up Logic Pro and loop some sounds together. I'm no expert but I usually just play 4 looping bars with the metronome so everything stays relatively in sync. I can play a little bit of chords, melody and bass and sometimes it sounds cool.

Best Mania#youtube.com

This has to go down as one of the best Mania's of all time.

There was so many great highlights and the main event was perfect.

This quote has been going round:

the Paul Levesque era has begun

and it should mean just much better programming.

The Footy With Broden Kelly#open.spotify.com

Just wanted to say how much I enjoy this podcast. I've only listened to it regularly in the last few months.

A bit of humour and enough analysis for it to still be somewhat serious. It's a great listen.
