Best Entertainment Of 2023

Another year over! It went so fast 🏎️.

I'm once again doing a couple of end of year lists. I'll do a reflecting on 2023 (2021, 2022) post which will be more personal and include some goals for 2024 but I'll start off with my favourite entertainment of the year. Here is the 2022 edition.

As a reminder for how this works I pick my favourite:

  1. Game
  2. Album
  3. Movie/television show

Last year I did a gadget category as well but I might move that to a seperate "best gadget" post.

This list is not necessarily entertainment that was released this year. It instead entails entertainment that I discovered this year.

Here is the list:

  1. Game of the year: Metroid Prime Remastered
  2. Album of the year: At Folsom Prison
  3. Movie/television show of the year: Peaky Blinders

Metroid Prime Remastered was an incredibly engaging experience. It helped me understand why Metroid is such a beloved Nintendo franchise and is a must play alongside Mario and Zelda when a new game is released. The level design is amazing. Even as a "remaster" running on old Nintendo Switch hardware the game looks incredible. Tears of the Kingdom comes in close second and in many ways is a better game but it's just too similar to Breath of the Wild for me. Getting all the different suit upgrades and moving quickly through the Metroid Prime world feels phenomenal.

At Folsom Prison is the best live album I've ever heard. It's a remarkable piece of recorded music that makes me feel like I'm actually there. Johnny Cash's story is amazing and I learnt so much about his music and life this year.

Peaky Blinders season 1 and 2 is brilliant television. I'd slept on the show for a few years but finally put the time into watching it and it was so worth it. I loved the ending to season 2; just gripping television that has so many twists.
