Reflecting On 2021

2021 was a mess of a year especially in the second half. I still think I accomplished most of my basic goals.

I wanted to:

  1. Improve my programming skills learning TypeScript, GraphQL and Go
  2. Lift weights
  3. Improve my golf

In terms of my programming I've 100% improved. I feel much more comfortable in my day job. I can write competent Go and TypeScript and understand the fundamentals of GraphQL.

I've been to the gym consistently throughout the year. Even in the lock down months I continued a solid workout routine.

My golf is probably the main thing that hasn't improved a lot despite playing a fair bit from October to the end of the year. I need golf lessons to really take the next step.

This year I'd like to:

  1. Be promoted at work
  2. Buy a house
  3. Actually improve at golf
  4. Maintain my fitness

Being promoted at work is pretty self explanatory. I want to move from an SE1 to an SE2.

Buying a house is also a pretty simple goal with a lot of complexities in how to actually achieve it. I'm hoping to have something by July.

In terms of my golf, I want to be able to competently hit driver and the longer irons (5-7 iron). I want to able to hit those clubs straight and true.

Fitness wise I need to maintain. That might be through gym or by getting back into running. I'm also playing a bit of indoor soccer now as well.
