The Open 2024#youtube.com

What an awesome tournament and winner. Winning two majors in a year is an incredible achievement for Xander.

I just love watching The Open for a few reasons, namely:

  • The timezone from the UK to Australia works well since they tee off early morning, I can actually watch most of the round before sleeping
  • The links courses they play on remind me of Australia, the wind and undulating terrain is so different from the US courses, honestly most of the US courses are a little boring compared to what exists in other parts of the world
  • It's awesome seeing players struggling in the conditions and actually fighting for par, it's not just a birdie fest, a winning score of ~10 under is a good indication of the right kind of challenge

Hogwarts Legacy Initial Thoughts

I'm around 20% of the way through playing Hogwarts Legacy on Switch. I have some thoughts:

  • The game solid, I went in with lowish expectations but I'm having a lot of fun
  • The combat is really well designed, it's a tricky system to master, there's lots of different ways in which you can cast spells and defend yourself, this is really the main reason why I'm enjoying the game
  • The story so far is pretty weak, it's just not that interesting
  • The tutorial was also not great, it was a bit too hand holdy
  • The game runs very poorly on the Switch which I expected, there's long load times (often 20-30 seconds), lag and bugs, I encountered a bug earlier where I was mid mission and I just couldn't progress, I had to close and restart the game for the mission to actually have a next task
  • This is the exact reason why we needed an upgraded Switch ~2 years ago, games like this should run better
  • I think having now experienced 2 amazing Zelda RPGs on Switch makes certain aspects of other third party RPGs feel crap, things like jumping, climbing, accessing new parts of the map, fluidly completing tasks, collecting items etc, all of these aspects feel better in Zelda

Dumb Checkbox#threads.net

There are dark patterns, and there are DARK patterns.

Uhh that's a bad checkbox.

CrowdStrike#youtube.com

What an absolute shit show this is.

Most of the self check out POSs were effected at my Woolworths last night. This made me look up the news story. Amazing what impact this had.

It shows how much of the world runs on Windows.

Elephantitis

Both Boots and Tilly have a new affliction. It's called Elephantitis.

The two symptoms of Elephantitis are as follows:

  1. They never forget, just like Elephants, Tilly never forgets when she was attacked by other dogs, so she's still reactive, and Boots never forgets where the speakers (the dogs that bark at him) live, he always has to pull on the leash to those houses
  2. They're both becoming little fatty's, just like Elephants

Phil#youtube.com

Phil Mickelson talks way too much but he had some interesting advice in regards to putting.

The advice was basically:

short back stroke but accelerate through

will give this more of a try on course.

Royal Troon#youtube.com

The course looks in beautiful knick. Looking forward to watching this weekend.

Copa America Chaos#tiktok.com

Some of the footage of people clambering into the stadium like this is just ridiculous.

It's callbacks to the Hillsborough disaster.

Why was there not more security around to stop this?
