Super Mario Wonder is okay. I don't love it yet but I'm warming up to it.
The art style and music is beautiful. It's an achievement in the technical sense and I can totally see that.
But my expectations are high now for 2D games. After playing Celeste and Metroid Dread my idea of "good 2D game" changed.
I'm up to the 4th world now which is the desert one. There's been a couple of decent levels so far but I'm not hooked.
I guess it's that classic feeling of not fully hooked immediately. Even Metroid Dread which I loved took a few hours to get into.
It's funny in that I can see there are hints of Celeste in the game. I just played a level where a ghost chases you and that is 100% similar to themes in Celeste.
What I know for sure is that the harder levels are soooo much better. I'm getting up to the good part now so hopefully my opinion of the game will change as I get deeper.
