I've been struggling to think of a new game to play since I completed Super Mario Wonder.
I was randomly watching some YouTube and I came across this stream of someone playing all the way through Ocarina of Time. I noticed that the streamer was using software called the Ship Of Harkinian to play the game.
This piqued my curiosity so I checked out the project.
Taken straight from Wikipedia:
Ship of Harkinian is an unofficial source port of the 1998 Nintendo 64 Ocarina of Time game
It first released in March 2022 for Windows, four months after Ocarina of Time's source code was decompiled and released
Updates to Ship of Harkinian have attracted media attention, as they often integrate options and features which aren't present in any official release of Ocarina of Time
This is super interesting. I don't know much about the technicalities of how the game was decompiled but basically this allows the game to:
- Run on modern hardware natively
- Have mods
because developers can make changes to this decompiled code.
So the means you can make the game look prettier enhanced textures. You can have a free camera. You can even run the game at 60 FPS. Super cool!
I've played the game but never actually completed it. This time round it's my mission to finish it off!
