This weeks Rick Shiels podcast was a good one. They had some interesting thoughts on golf majors and the Ryder Cup.
The Masters is at Augusta every single year, we'll never move it and it shouldn't ever move
I think The Open should be at St. Andrews every single year
Agree that it should just be at St. Andrews. I know its great for other courses in the UK to get a chance to host the event but the prestige of St. Andrews and the history of it should mean it should always be there.
Imagine then if there was like two bespoke venues one in the US and one in Europe that only ever hosted the Ryder Cup every two years
It was like it was a home and away venue, like proper bespoke venues
Yes to this.
I love this year watching at Marco Simone knowing the course because I've been there
With The Masters it's awesome watching it because you kind of know the holes. Knowing for example what Amen Corner is like and looking forward to seeing those holes.
The infrastructure (at the two bespoke venues) would become insane because they'll have it every four years
Imagine how big the grand stand would be you can just almost keep them up
You could go play it as a spectator they could just keep them up for the whole time, I mean I don't know if that would work logistically but let's just say you can play it and all the grand stands are up
I'd love it to be in the UK yeah but I I think they build a brand new venue yes I don't even think it's a golf courses that exist right now
You could make it a mega golf course. Something that was a proper challenge of golf.
You know what also could be really really cool you have you have 18 holes I mean where's the rules why do you have to have 18 holes you could have 27 holes that are completely different
This would make for an awesome spectacle. You could have a real mix of long and short holes. Variance in the width of fairways. Variance in the slope of greens. You could try all sorts of things.
