On our USA trip we somehow booked all different airlines to fly across the country.
The itinerary is:
- Melbourne - LA: Qantas
- LA - Minneapolis: Sun Country
- Minneapolis - Chicago: American Airlines
- Chicago - New York City: United
- New York City - Washington D.C: Amtrak (train)
- Washington D.C - Honolulu: Delta
- Honolulu - Melbourne: Jetstar
Based on trying lots of different airlines I thought I'd do a quick review of all of them.
- Qantas: great experience, friendly staff, comfy economy seat, smooth flight, good food on plane, we had no one sitting in the middle of us so we had extra space which was very lucky
- Sun Country, basically Jetstar but in the US, got bused to a terminal, flight was fine, got a drink on the plane for free
- American Airlines: staff were a bit rude, passengers on this flight were also annoying, smooth flight
- United: good experience, in nice terminal, staff friendly
- Amtrak: crazy traffic to get to Penn station but at least we had heaps of time, waited for a while to get on train at station but was relatively comfy, train was fantastic, good seats, sat in the quiet carriage, amazing to get to a city and be right in the centre of it at the station
- Delta: free wi-fi on the plane is next level, we truely live in time where amazing technology is possible, flight from Minneapolis to Honolulu was just okay as it lacked the wi-fi, liked that it had 2-3-2 seating setup, me and Emma had a 2 seat area to ourselves, complimentary food was a nice touch
- Jetstar: low price airline, low quality experience, Honolulu to Melbourne is a 10 hour flight and they ran out of food which is pretty terrible, lot of young children and annoying parents, have to pay for entertainment and food
The best airline in the US is without question Delta. The experience flying from Baltimore to Minneapolis with free wi-fi (that was also decent quality) is life changing. Hopefully all planes have this one day!
Qantas still reigns supreme as being an awesome way to fly internationally.
