Dunk Contest#tiktok.com

The dunk contest is cool but it needs some kind of change.

It's always somewhat unknown players (at least unknown by casual fan standards) and there's only so many dunks that players can do.

The contest between Steph and Sabrina was awesome though.

AirPods Max Review

This week Emma received a pair of AirPods Max as a gift. Being the Apple fanboy that I am I had to do a quick little review.

Here are my thoughts:

  • They're expensive but it's a high quality product
  • They're beautiful to look at and hold, the materials it's made of are premium
  • The noise cancelling is excellent, maybe the best I've ever experienced, the AirPods Pro honestly aren't too far behind though
  • Using them for ~40 mins felt super comfortable
  • Transparency mode isn't as good as AirPods Pro, which makes sense given that the AirPods Pro are not over ear
  • It has a rich sound, the bass is thick but it's controlled
  • 80% volume is loud, you don't need much more
  • Syncing was simple with my Mac, just had to go into bluetooth settings, sure its just as good with the phone
  • The volume knob is super smooth, it's kinda fun changing volume
  • The button to switch between noise cancelling and transparency mode is nice
  • Backwards and forwards with a double and triple tap on the volume knob also works well
  • The case is weird looking but it works

Most Used Terminal Commands

This was an unsurprising list but here are my most used terminal commands:

4754 git
 835 clear
 697 node
 582 cd
 458 j
 441 yarn
 431 npm
 265 gst
 192 code
 130 bun
 126 npx
  78 mryum
  67 mkdir
  58 tilt
  53 docker
  48 deno
  35 curl
  31 ssh
  31 brew
  28 ub

To get this output I ran:

history | awk '{print $2}' | sort | uniq -c | sort -nr | head -20

which itself is a cool use case for the pipe operator.

Red Neck

Boots has a new nickname: Red Neck.

He has some irritation and dry skin around his neck. It's very red.

Its been caused by him swimming and his wet collar rubbing against the neck. We'll need to make sure he has a dry collar from now on after river or beach swims.

Nerd Rock Climbing

On the weekend I had my first taste of bouldering in an indoor gym.

I did this for my mate Mikes bucks party at Urban Climb.

Amongst our friendship group bouldering is affectionately known as nerd rock climbing which makes sense given the makeup of our group.

The experience was really interesting:

  • The gym was hot, it was only ~28 degrees outside but there was no aircon
  • You had a quick safety session with an instructor and you could then basically do whatever climb you wanted
  • There were about 8 different levels of climbing, I got up to the 3rd hardest level (purple)
  • I had no technique whatsoever so I cooked myself very quickly, my arms became spaghetti and I couldn't hold onto the wall properly
  • There was one climb in particular (a purple) that I tried about 8 times and finally got to the top which I was really happy with, you had to actually get to the top of a large box so you felt very accomplished standing at the summit
  • There was some amazing climbers in the gym, people who could jump between holds and do all sorts of crazy stunts

Container Deposit Scheme#vic.gov.au

We had a tonne of leftover cans and bottles from our engagement party and today we took them down to the container where we could recycle them and get 10 cents back per item.

Some learnings of the process were:

  • It doesn't accept large bottles, like wine or champagne
  • You can get credit back in the form of a Woolworths voucher, so you can save some money on the next grocery shop
  • Every time you add an item it checks for a barcode, items without barcodes won't be accepted

We ended up making about ~$15. It's definitely not something you could do as a job and get rich quickly from but worth doing in many cases!

Basketball Hoop

Last week I acquired a basketball hoop thanks to my mate Aidan.

Setting it up turned out to be pretty complicated. It was at least a ~2 hour process and this was with my carpenter brother Jake's help.

But the results are beautiful.

I'm slowly getting closer to creating the backyard of my dreams with various sporting equipment.

Zed looks like a pretty slick editor. I'm still not switching from VS Code anytime soon.
