Spud At The River

We went to Echuca over the weekend with family, friends and Spudly.

Games Of 2025#youtube.com

Nice little games list. It reminds me that I still really want to play Blue Prince. It's sadly still not on Switch but it's weirdly on the Mac.

Prime 4 Lies#youtube.com

Offfff this one hurts. I haven't played through the whole game yet but I watched most of this video. Agree with a lot of Wood's concerns. The game is way too linear and is not true to the original Metroid Prime philosophy. I enjoyed the remaster of Prime 1 way more than this current game. It shows how important design and story is vs pure technological advancements.

Logging Sucks#loggingsucks.com

Nice long educational post on good logging. It makes a lot of sense going with the wide events pattern. Some of my works code bases work like this but not all of them.

Stranger Things Season 5#netflix.com

I liked the Will gets powers story line. The ending was kind of like Lord of the Rings with all the different stories closing out.

Touch#youtube.com

Will be teaching Spud this trick this week.

Surfing

I've been trying to get out into the surf more this summer. I've learnt a couple of things over the past few days:

  • I currently have a 6'8 NSP board that's 21 inches wide and 2.75 inches thick
  • I've really struggled to stay buoyant on the board in bigger swell, I can barely sit up on it, I also struggle a bit with paddle power as I'm getting used to a new wetsuit
  • I gave ChatGPT a whirl to give me some ideas on what would be a good board based on my experience level and height/weight
  • It outputted this
You should look for a mid-length / easy paddler board that’s all about: stability, catching waves early, easy paddling (especially in a wetsuit) and confidence building

Recommended size range for you (75 kg, open beach breaks): length 7’0″ – 7’4″, width ~22″ – 22½″, thickness ~2⅞″ – 3″, volume ~48 L – 55 L
  • The epoxy soft boards look like a good option based on these specs, something like this board or this one would be quite nice
  • I'm not going to get a new board right now but it could be something to keep an eye on
  • Jake has also been helping me this week with surfing and took me out in this water, the best way to read the conditions he thinks is to use Swellnet and read the report at observed beaches, someone does the Mornington Peninsula every day which is handy

Christmas Spud

He's a lovely pup.

Hyper Light Drifter Review

I finished Hyper Light Drifter in the last few days. It's a solid game without being amazing. It had a very nice top-down Zelda game art style which I enjoyed. The bosses were solid whilst arguably being quite easy. The music was awesome; really cool synth sound design.

Year With ChatGPT

This was really fun. I don't think there's a way to share your results but I took some screenshots.
