Woodend

Some pictures from the past week.

Apple In China#youtube.com

This book really looks excellent. Apple hasn't done anything specifically wrong it's more like their choices have indirectly led to this complicated situation now where China have the best phones, electric cars and drones.

They have hundreds of football sized factories with amazing robotics and automation and an army of highly skilled workers who have essentially been trained by Apple. And these workers do ~12 hour shifts and they aren't paid well.

The drones part of this is particularly nefarious as that leads into military type technology which clearly is not good for the US.

Lancefield Golf Club#lancefieldgolfclub.com.au

I've been lucky enough this week to stay at my Aunties farm near Woodend. I brought my clubs up to have a bit of a hit and realised that Lancefield Golf Club was not too far from where I was staying.

I've played there twice and it is a brilliant place to play truly secluded golf. I played there Sunday afternoon with a mate and we saw ~5 golfers. I played there Thursday afternoon and saw only 1 other golfer. So nice and peaceful.

The course itself is also in decent knick. Sure it's a country course so it doesn't have perfect fairways and greens but it's pretty solid. It makes for a lot of fun and a good test.

Northwood#youtube.com

This is hands down one of the best YouTube golf videos I've ever seen. The beauty of the trees at Northwood is just amazing. The actual birdie challenge was enthralling. The fact that he did it with the sun setting and the light just about to go out. The frustration of the dry spells and the elation of when he got hot. This is what golf means to me in a pure sense.

1945 Grand Final#open.spotify.com

It was a unique time in human history and it also led to a very weird VFL Grand Final.

The roughness of play, and the high number of reports, suspensions and melees, drew heavy comment from sportswriters and public at the time. In more recent years, the game has come to be nicknamed the Bloodbath due to its violent reputation. In all, nine players were reported on fourteen charges during the game. Bottles were also thrown onto the ground by spectators.

It's particularly interesting in how South Melbourne were the more skilled team but just got bullied by Carlton's physicality.
